Chiropractic FAQ — Oasis Chiropractic Center, Mesquite NV
Everything you want to know about chiropractic care, massage therapy, insurance, pricing, and what to expect at our Mesquite clinic — answered honestly.
Your First Visit
What to Expect at Oasis Chiropractic
What happens on my first visit?
Your first visit includes a thorough health history review, a postural and orthopedic assessment, and your first full chiropractic adjustment — all in one appointment. Dr. Hamilton takes time to understand your pain patterns, lifestyle, and goals before placing a hand on you. Most new patient visits take 45–60 minutes. You'll leave with a clear picture of what's causing your problem and a realistic plan to fix it.
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
In most cases, no referral is needed. Chiropractors are primary care providers for musculoskeletal conditions, meaning you can come directly to us without seeing another doctor first. However, if you have SelectHealth insurance, a referral from your primary care physician is required before your first visit. If you're unsure whether your plan requires a referral, call us at (702) 346-5030 and we'll help you verify before you come in.
How long does an appointment take?
New patient appointments are typically 45–60 minutes. Follow-up adjustment visits are usually 20–30 minutes. Sports medicine new patient visits run about 60 minutes due to the comprehensive evaluation involved. If you're combining a chiropractic adjustment with a massage, plan for additional time accordingly.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing works best — athletic wear or casual clothes are ideal. Avoid tight jeans or restrictive clothing that could limit your range of motion during the exam. For massage appointments, you'll be draped with a sheet and can undress to your comfort level.
Does chiropractic care hurt?
Most patients feel immediate relief — not pain — after an adjustment. Some experience mild muscle soreness in the treated area for 24–48 hours, similar to how you'd feel after a new workout. Dr. Hamilton always explains what he's doing and adapts his technique to your comfort level. If anything feels uncomfortable during treatment, just say so and he'll adjust his approach.
Why do I hear a "popping" sound during an adjustment?
The popping sound — called a cavitation — is simply gas bubbles releasing from the fluid surrounding a joint as it moves through its range of motion. It's completely harmless and similar to cracking your knuckles. Some adjustments produce the sound, others don't. The therapeutic benefit comes from restoring proper joint movement, not the sound itself — so don't worry if you don't hear a pop.
Treatment & Results
How Chiropractic Works
How many visits will I need?
It depends on your condition, how long you've had it, and your goals. Acute injuries often see significant improvement in 3–6 visits. Chronic conditions like long-standing back or neck pain may need a longer initial care plan, followed by periodic maintenance to stay feeling good. Dr. Hamilton will give you an honest, realistic estimate at your first visit — we never push unnecessary treatment or lock you into long-term plans.
How soon will I feel results?
Many patients feel noticeable relief after their very first adjustment. Others — especially those with chronic conditions — may take a few visits to feel a significant change as the body adapts. Results depend on the nature of your condition, your age, overall health, and how consistently you come in for care. We'll track your progress at every visit and adjust the plan if needed.
What's the difference between chiropractic and physical therapy?
Chiropractic care focuses on diagnosing and correcting spinal and joint misalignments (subluxations) through manual manipulation, with the goal of restoring proper nervous system function. Physical therapy focuses more on rehabilitative exercise to rebuild strength and mobility. The two complement each other well — and at Oasis, Dr. Hamilton incorporates elements of both through his sports medicine RPT (Rehab, Prevention & Training) program.
Can chiropractic make my condition worse?
Chiropractic care is one of the safest forms of healthcare available. Serious adverse events are extremely rare. Some patients experience temporary soreness after their first few adjustments as the body adapts — this is normal and typically resolves within a day or two. Dr. Hamilton thoroughly evaluates each patient before treatment and will refer out to another provider if he determines chiropractic is not appropriate for your condition.
Conditions Treated
What We Can Help With
Can chiropractic help with sciatica?
Yes — sciatica is one of the most common conditions we treat at our Mesquite clinic. Chiropractic adjustments can reduce the nerve compression causing your sciatic pain, and we combine that with specific exercises and lifestyle guidance to address the root cause rather than just masking symptoms. Most sciatica patients see meaningful relief within a few visits.
Can chiropractic help with headaches and migraines?
Yes — cervicogenic headaches (those originating from neck tension and joint dysfunction) respond very well to chiropractic care. Many migraine patients also report reduced frequency and severity with regular adjustments. If you're relying on pain medication for frequent headaches, it's worth exploring whether the root cause is structural.
Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?
Yes — chiropractic care is safe and beneficial throughout pregnancy. Adjustments are modified for each trimester using gentle, pregnancy-appropriate techniques and positioning. Many of our Mesquite patients find significant relief from low back pain, sciatica, round ligament pain, and hip discomfort during pregnancy. Dr. Hamilton regularly treats expectant mothers and tailors every session to their stage of pregnancy.
Can children get chiropractic adjustments?
Absolutely — chiropractic care is safe and effective for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. Pediatric adjustments use very light, gentle pressure appropriate for a developing spine — nothing like the adjustments adults receive. Kids commonly benefit for colic, ear infections, growing pains, sports injuries, scoliosis screening, and general posture support. We offer reduced pricing for patients under 18: $60 new patient, $30 follow-up.
Can chiropractic help after a car accident?
Yes — and we strongly encourage you to come in promptly after an accident, even if you feel okay. Whiplash and soft tissue injuries often don't fully manifest until 24–72 hours after the crash. Early chiropractic care can significantly reduce recovery time and help prevent symptoms from becoming chronic. We also assist with insurance billing for auto accident cases so you can focus on healing.
What is dry needling and how is it different from acupuncture?
Dry needling uses thin needles to target trigger points — tight, painful muscle knots that cause local and referred pain. Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is based entirely on Western anatomy and neuromuscular science. It's highly effective for releasing stubborn muscle tension, reducing inflammation, and restoring range of motion — often producing results where other treatments haven't. Sessions at Oasis are $50 and can be combined with your chiropractic adjustment.

Massage Therapy
Massage at Oasis Chiropractic
Should I get a massage before or after my chiropractic adjustment?
Many patients benefit from massage before their adjustment — relaxed muscles allow for a more effective and comfortable manipulation. However, this depends on your condition and what you're being treated for. Our team will recommend the best sequence based on your care plan. Combining both in one visit is a powerful approach that many of our patients swear by.
What types of massage do you offer?
We offer Swedish massage and deep tissue massage in 60 or 90-minute sessions, with optional add-ons including hot stones (+$5), cold stones (+$5), and muscle scraping / IASTM (+$5). Our massage therapist Amber Earl is also a trained structural therapist — a specialty that works hand-in-hand with chiropractic care to address the muscles surrounding the spine and joints.
Does insurance cover massage therapy?
Most standard health insurance plans do not cover standalone massage therapy. However, HSA and FSA accounts can often be used for therapeutic massage. We accept CareCredit for massage services. Call us to discuss payment options before booking.
How often should I get a massage?
For general wellness and stress management, once or twice a month is ideal. For chronic pain, sports recovery, or active injury rehabilitation, weekly sessions are often recommended initially. Amber will assess your needs and suggest a frequency that fits your goals and your schedule.

Our Services
What Makes Oasis Different
Can I get chiropractic and massage in the same visit?
Yes — and it's one of the most powerful combinations we offer. Having massage and chiropractic together in one visit is more effective than either alone. The massage relaxes and prepares the muscles, making the chiropractic adjustment more comfortable and longer-lasting. Many of our Mesquite patients combine both services regularly.
What is structural therapy?
Structural therapy is a specialized form of massage that focuses on the connective tissue, fascia, and muscles that support the skeletal structure — particularly around the spine and joints. Our massage therapist Amber Earl is a trained structural therapist, which means her work directly complements Dr. Hamilton's chiropractic adjustments. Together, they address both the joint alignment (chiropractic) and the soft tissue environment around it (structural therapy) for faster, more lasting results.
What makes Dr. Hamilton different from other chiropractors?
Dr. Hamilton holds both a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) and a Master of Sports Medicine (MS) from the University of Western States — a dual credential that sets him apart in this region. His sports medicine training means he evaluates and treats musculoskeletal injuries with an additional layer of expertise, incorporating rehab and prevention programs (RPT) alongside traditional chiropractic care. As a former athlete himself who has dealt with his own sports injuries, he brings genuine personal understanding to every patient.
